History
In addition to the exhilaration of links-style golf and the pleasures of a four season lifestyle, Cobble Beach is a picturesque, waterfront community that honours and preserves its natural environment and cultural history.
In 1999, soon after the Cobble Beach project was initiated, a significant cultural and archaeological study was undertaken and endorsed by the Ministry of Citizenship, Culture and Recreation - the most comprehensive study of its kind in Grey County.
The study identified Native culture and Euro-Canadian archaeological sites within the 574-acre property. In order to permanently safeguard the most culturally sensitive sites, which included homestead ruins, artifact scatters and cultural rock formations, a series of heritage zones were established before construction of the golf course began in the summer of 2004.
Cobble Beach is creating trails to be marked with plaques identifying numerous heritage sites. An on-site interpretive centre is also being planned. Whether explored by foot or on cross-country skis or snowshoes, our shared trail is yours to discover all year round!
